Originele en zeldzame Chevrolet Corvette brochure - 1957 (id-383)
This Chevrolet Corvette 'SS' is a magnesium bodied experimental car that set a new lap record in Sebring, Florida, in 1957. It has served as the precursor to many Corvette sports/racing models. Zora Arkus-Duntov, engineer-designer of the car, presented it on May 29, 1967 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at the drivers' meeting prior to the 51st Indy 500 mile race, which was driven by a Chevrolet Camaro.
Led by the gifted Zora Arkus-Duntov, a team of engineers created this ultra-lightweight (1850 lbs) and powerful (307 hp) racing car using the Mercedes 300SL as a template. A featherweight magnesium body encased a tubular steel frame with coil-over-shock front suspension, a De Dion rear axle and inboard mounted aluminum drum brakes. Under the hood was a fuel-injected small-block V8 capable of 307 horsepower at 6,400 rpm.
The 1957 Corvette SS was a 'concept car' created for the purpose of competing in the 24 Hours of LeMans. Two chassis were built, 'The Mule' and the race car. However, the first test would not be at LeMans, but at its shorter American counterpart, the 12 Hours of Sebring.
This truly magnificent 65 year old brochure is almost never offered. The brochure consists of 4 pages, including cover and is in a very good condition with light signs of use according to age.
In summary, a brochure that should not be missing in the collection of a Chevrolet Corvette enthusiast!
